Sunday Scripture Meditation (May 30,2010)

Meditation
The two central truths of our Christian faith are that in one God there are three Persons (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) and that the Son took on our human form so that God could communicate with us in language we could understand. Obviously, there is no way we can in this life fully understand the inner nature of God. But the Trinity indicates to us three ways in which God relates to us. As Father, he is the source of all being and life and also the goal to which we are called to return. As Son he is the Word, in other words, through him God communicates with us. The Son did this in a marvelous way by taking our human nature so that God could communicate (though in a limited way) his being in human language. We see God as Son in Jesus, the visible and human revelation and manifestation of God's love and compassion for the whole world. This love is climaxed in the extraordinary events of Jesus suffering, dying and rising to life. God comes to us through Jesus, the Incarnate Son, and we go to God through making our own the view of life and the Way of Jesus. We see God as Spirit forming us, guiding us, teaching us, moving us, comforting and strengthening us. It is in this Trinitarian image that we have been created and it is to grow ever more into this image that we are called. It is a world of harmony, peace and joy.
Glory be to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit!
